Its purpose is the education and development of young people of all nationalities, religions and social backgrounds, through sail training. Its wholly owned subsidiary company, Sail Training International Events Limited, organises the Tall Ships Races (for sail training vessels), conferences and seminars. It also produces a magazine and other publications, and engages in other trading activities.
The city of Szczecin will be the presenting sponsor for the Tall Ships Races, initially for a 4 year period starting in the summer of 2010.
In return for a considerable financial contribution, the Polish city will have the opportunity to promote a massive waterfront development including a major marina and its interest in sail training for young people at the various Tall Ships host ports.
